Spirit Taekwon-Do has five schools operating across the Wellington Region, with a wide range of days and times to choose from.

Brooklyn Children's Class
Special classes for children
The Brooklyn kids class is specifically geared for childen aged from 7 - 13. Younger students may be accepted, subject to availability. Younger children are able to take advantage of the specially developed children's syllabus, which is designed to make it easy and fun to learn Taekwon-Do.

About the instructor
Mrs Helen Miller, III Dan
- Helen Miller joined Spirit Taekwon-Do Brooklyn as a 1st Dan black belt. She has since gone on to achieve 3rd Dan black belt, and since then has been the driving force behind the Brooklyn Kids class. Mrs Miller has found the new Kids Syllabus a fantastic aid to training younger kids and enjoys seeing even the youngest kids skills being developed.

About the instructors
Ms Louise Chan, IV Dan and Mr Benjamin Wylie-van Eerd, III Dan
Louise started Taekwon-Do in March 2000 after returning from her OE in London. She started training at Victoria University and later joined the Brooklyn Club as a Green Stripe. Louise graded to her 4th Dan in December 2011. She assisted Mr Brett Kraiger before stepping into her co-Instructor role and enjoys the watching students’ confidence and abilities grow. She enjoys Taekwon-Do for a variety of reasons including the moral foundation, the people she meets, and that she is forever learning whether it’s through teaching or through her own training.
Ben Wylie-van Eerd began his training in Taekwon-do in primary school in 2000, and joined Brooklyn club the following year. He earned his 1st dan in May of 2005, and has been instructing since 2010. He is currently working towards a PhD in physics and loves to apply mechanics principles to help develop excellent technique in himself and his students. He also loves flying kicks.

Karori / Kelburn

Karori school currently splits its training sessions between Kelburn on a Monday and Karori on a Friday.

Mr Simon Lloyd-Evans II Dan

Simon Lloyd-Evans began his training in the UK when he was a teenager, where he achieved a rank of Blue Belt. When he got to NZ he decided to start training again but it had been over 10 years since he had trained. He decided to start at white belt again in 2000, at the age of 30, and received his 1st Dan Black Belt in November 2003. He is now a 2nd Dan Black Belt and works in the building and housing sector as a Chief Information Officer.
Mr Malcolm Doidge, II Dan

Malcolm Doidge joined the original Brooklyn Taekwon-Do club, with his 2 children, in 2005 and graded to 1st Dan in 2009 and 2nd Dan in 2011. Mr Doidge has great enthusiasm for fitness and having fun doing Taekwon-Do. He is also committed to instructing that focuses on students and helping them achieve their goals. Mr Doidge illustrated the ITFNZ Taekwon-Do 'Minikids' syllabus book and also helped develop its content. The syllabus is used by Mrs Miller in her Children's class and in dojangs around New Zealand.

- Don Martin started Taekwon-Do in 1994 at Massey University, with Mr Mantjika, then graded to 1st Dan with Mr Kraiger at Brooklyn. He has been instructing at Thorndon since October 2005

Newlands
Classes for all ages over 12 years
Run by our head instructor, Mr Brett Kraiger, IV Dan, Spirit Taekwon-Do Newlands operates out of Newlands Centennial Hall, right in the middle of Newlands.

Wednesday & Friday 7:15-8:45pm.. (Third Friday of the month is 6pm - 7pm)

- Brett Kraiger has been doing Taekwon-Do for more than 20 years and instructing for more than 14. He opened the original Spirit Taekwon-Do school at Brooklyn in 1995. He has a particular interest in the technical side of Taekwon-Do, including patterns and the theory of Taekwon-Do movement. Mr Kraiger is also passionate about how training in Taekwon-Do can develop skills applicable in day-to-day life

Beginners Classes

Special Classes and Seminars
From time to time special classes are held by the Head Instructor, Mr Brett Kraiger, IV Dan.
These may be extra seminar-type classes open to all students, or guest-instructing at any of the Spirit schools.
All Spirit students will be notified of these classes well in advance, and all are welcome to attend.
